MCS Specialists respond to Microgeneration Strategy

Easy MCS Ltd the UK’s leading Microgeneration Certification Scheme specialists have responded to the government’s recently announced Microgeneration strategy which outlines an action plan for improving the uptake of microgeneration technologies through the reduction of market barriers and increasing consumer awareness.

Greg Barker MP Announces Microgeneration Strategy

Extract from speech;

Let’s make no mistake – the MCS is critical to the development of the industry.

We have listened to what you have said on the MCS, and the strategy sets out ways in which it can be made more effective. This will include simplified processes and, where possible, better alignment with other existing certification schemes and testing requirements at the European and international level. The changes we make must, of course, not affect the MCS continuing to provide robust consumer protection.

On skills, we know that we need to ensure that the entire supply chain has the appropriate skills – and the strategy sets out a range of actions to deliver a competent workforce with the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of a rapidly growing sector.

The strategy sets out actions to help industry, and policy makers, to better understand – and the consumer protection structure as it applies to insurance and warranties so that this is accurately reflected in regulation and in the industry’s everyday processes. This will lead to consumers making better-informed choices.

Speaking following the announcement, Easy MCS Operations Manager Simon Roberts commented "We are very pleased with the outcome of the Microgeneration Strategy and applaud the improvements the DECC are looking to make to the MCS scheme and Microgeneration industry. We were one of the respondents to the initial MCS consultation and are pleased our response has been taken on board. The MCS scheme is continually improving from its already strong base and any strategy to maintain the quality of the scheme whilst improving consumer awareness and consumer protection is welcomed. We will continue to provide installers with unrivalled levels of support throughout the MCS process and following MCS Accreditation."

Simon Weston OBE due to launch new training hub in Manor Royal in Partnership with Easy MCS Ltd

Trade Skills 4 U

Britain’s most advanced renewable training centre officially launches on 17 June 2011. The launch will also act as an open day for those who wish to visit the centre as it truly showcases Trade Skills 4U’s dedication to training. The centre provides candidates with purpose built facilities to train domestic installers and electricians in real and relevant scenarios to prepare for the renewable revolution.

The open day itinerary includes seminars from their partners, live demonstrations of renewable installation and a presentation from guest speaker, Simon Weston OBE, a name well-known for his time in the Falklands. Weston’s fight to overcome horrific burn injuries and redefine his role in life after the Falklands War is an example of the incredible bravery shown by Britain’s Heroes as we continue to fight for our country.

Simon will tell of his achievement and present the companies first bursary place launching TS4U’s forgotten hero’s bursary scheme.

The Crawley-based training provider reserves a place each week for ‘forgotten heroes’ which have slipped through the resettlement net and hopes to provide free and discounted training for those in need of a new career path.

‘We are not a huge company and can’t offer free training to everyone that is eligible so we have to select and prioritise those able to take the free training, based on need,’ says Carl Bennett, Managing Director of TS4U.

The day will also be an eye opener for those who are confused by the Renewable energy industry with seminars from partners Easy MCS, Stroma and Eco Tube. These highly regarded companies within the industry will explain accreditation, Feed in Tariffs and installation. Following the theme, the 100% electric car, the Nissan leaf, will be making an appearance as the company will be attempting to charge the car via a solar array.

“The renewable energy market is growing so quickly that there is a real need for qualified installers,” Carl Bennett stressed. That’s why Trade Skills 4U is working hard to create the best facilities for candidates to train on.

TS4U Trainees will have the advantage of being able to learn how to install photovoltaic (PV) systems on a purpose-built single-storey timber-framed house, constructed next to the training centre’s main building, located on Manor Royal Industrial Estate.

“Our goal is to enable a trainee to finish the training on a Friday, confident, competent and compliant to complete an installation the following Monday, hassle-free”, said Carl Bennett, Managing Director of TS4U.

Only 1,500 renewable energy electricians are currently registered in the UK but research by the Department of Climate Change predicts that there will be 7 million PV installations by 2020, requiring up to 50,000 accredited installers.

The facility opened for training courses earlier this year, providing fully qualified instructors with hands-on practical workshops and theory lessons with delegates obtaining registration and accreditation from governing bodies such as City & Guilds, NICEIC, BPEC, EAL, trading standards and ELC. The solar PV courses are a key step into becoming MCS accredited.

“We have a modern approach to training,” added Chloe Bennett.  “Our collaboration with PV panel manufacturers ensures that we have developed an appropriate training package for trainees.”

TS4U trained more than 3,000 (now qualified) domestic installers across the UK last year and it runs the first training centre in the UK to offer “at-height training on a single- storey roof” at the leading edge fully specified Manor Royal site.

”Candidates gain invaluable experience of not only working at height but also how to use equipment such as gin wheels and pulleys  – an aspect of training that some companies may cut back on,” Chloe Bennett said.

TS4U instructor Mark Turner, who completed his training with the company, said:  “Those who want a career change should grab opportunities like this. The courses equip you for the future, whether you choose electrics or renewable energy. You’ll be glad you did it, I am.”

Sales Manager for Event Sponsor Easy MCS Ltd, Thomas Farquhar comments “We are pleased to be supporting one of the UK’s leading training providers, Trade Skills 4 U in their open day. The facilities at their crawley based centre are unrivalled and we highly recommend their courses to all installers looking to enter the industry. Easy MCS will be giving a talk on the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, the benefits of MCS Accreditation and the route to successful MCS Certification”.

Microgeneration Certification Scheme Specialists Partner with Industry leading training provider Trade Skills 4U

Trade Skills 4U

The Two Companies Combine to Provide First Class Training and Simple Route to MCS Accreditation.

Trade Skills 4U and Easy MCS, today, announced their collaboration to deliver first class training with award winning MCS accreditation. This type of partnership will enable both parties to provide better and extended services to their customers.

MCS accreditation exists to protect the consumer by ensuring the products installed and the installer feeds back to the national grid and meet the approved standards. If an installation is not certified then the home owner will be unable to sell their energy back to the national grid. An installer can only gain MCS accreditation if they have both relevant accredited training and the appropriate QMS package in place.

“We are excited to be offering this new service to provide trainee’s with a straightforward route to MCS accreditation. It’s great to have found a company like Easy MCS that provide a professional and supportive service which echoes our own philosophy, when delivering relevant training” says Quality Coordinator Donna Latimer at Trade Skills 4U.

Award Winning MCS Accreditation Specialists Applaud Renewable Heat Incentive

The UK's leading MCS Accreditation specialists Easy MCS Ltd have applauded the government’s decision to introduce the Renewable Heat Incentive from July 2011. Initially the Renewable Heat Incentive will cover commercial applications with the Domestic RHI being introduced in October 2012. Until this time, domestic consumers will be eligible for an RHI Premium Payment which is essentially a one off grant of up to £1,250 and they can then move onto the RHI in October 2012. Once the RHI is introduced on October 2012 any installation back to 15th July 2009 using MCS Accredited equipment and an installer with MCS Certification will be eligible for the on-going funding.

Speaking after the announcement, Thomas Farquhar of Easy MCS Ltd commented “We are very pleased with today’s announcement on The Renewable Heat Incentive. This is the confirmation the industry needed that this government is committed to the 2020 carbon targets and now the right investments can be made by installers to enter the Renewable Industry. Reading between the lines it appears that although most people may think the Domestic market is being neglected until 2012, the DECC appears to be trialling the Renewable Heat Incentive with the commercial market thus allowing them to Iron out all the creases before hitting the domestic market in October next year. In the mean time domestic installers will be receiving RHI payments upfront. I think this is a huge step forward for the industry. If the Feed in Tariffs are anything to go by, Domestic installers should not be concerned about RHI payments next year . The commercial Feed In Tariffs are approximately 50% less than the Domestic FITTS, which if mirrored on the RHI, will mean domestic installers will see an excellent return on top of high fuel savings.

On the issue of Air Source Heat Pumps we I do not see this as having major impact on the industry as the Government has shown its support for the technology in the upfront payments (RHIPP) being given. The DECC has also shown that Air Source will be introduced in the Domestic RHI due to start in October 2012. We are speaking to increasing numbers of Heat Pump, Biomass and Solar Thermal installers on the back of this announcement and the feedback is not one of concern but one of positive anticipation.”

MCS Accreditation Specialists respond to government MCS consultation

MCS Accreditation specialists Easy MCS Ltd have formally responded to the consultation taking place on the Microgeneration Certification Scheme with the results due to be released March 2011.

Responding to the Consultation Document, Easy MCS Operations Manager Simon Roberts comments “The MCS Consultation is taking placed to ascertain the barriers to new installers being able to enter the industry along side the barriers consumers have in investing in Microgeneration technologies. If the UK renewable industry is to match the demand estimates from the DECC then more installers are needed. However, this is already starting to happen. Month on month more and more installers are applying for MCS Certification and demand at Easy MCS is at a 12 month high. The current setup of the MCS Scheme is very effective. The standards are onerous and therefore protect the consumer whilst at the same time provide the installation company involved with the structure needed to be a successful business. New installers shouldn’t fear the MCS Scheme as with the right support it is accessible to all companies regardless of size. We have responded to the consultation outlining our thoughts on some of the concerns raised about maintaining the quality of installers whilst also making more installers aware of the scheme. We fully support the management of the MCS scheme and look forward to assisting in increasing awareness to new installers”.

Oil & Renewable Heating Show a “roaring success” for MCS Accreditation Specialists

Oil & Renewable Heating Show

The Oil & Renewable Heating Show was a huge success for MCS Accreditation Specialists Easy MCS Ltd. Sales Manager Thomas Farquhar comments “We were hugely impressed with the response we received from the show, we weren’t expecting it to be as busy as it was due to the fact it was in its first year. The installers we spoke to highlighted that they are all very keen at diversifying into Renewables but that some of the information is still not getting through. Many didn’t know about the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, Renewable Heat Incentive or Feed In Tariffs. Our main aim for the show was to encourage new installers to get involved in the industry and to start with MCS Accreditation as a stepping stone to success. We tried to allay many of the fears new installers have as many see the MCS Scheme as a very difficult process. We couldn’t be more pleased with the amount of enquiries we have received and since the show our phones have not stopped ringing. We will definitely be there next year”.

MCS Accreditation Specialists give "Warm" Welcome to Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) Announcement by George Osborne in Government Spending Review

DECC

MCS Accreditation specialists Easy MCS Ltd have responded positively to the announcement that the Renewable Heat Incentive will proceed as planned in 2011. George Osborne announced that the RHI will be introduced to allow the UK to have the best possible chance of meeting its 2020 carbon targets (Highlighted Below). The renewable industry will welcome this result as a major boost for renewable heat technologies such as Air/Ground Source Heat Pumps & Solar Thermal Panels. The DECC have confirmed £860 Million is being allocated to fund the Renewable Heat Incentive with further details on consumer rates and terms to follow.

Taken from the full spending review document, Department of Energy & Climate Change pg. 63.

"2.103 The spending will be matched by reforms to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of public interventions. The Renewable Heat Incentive, funded from AME, will be introduced from 2011-2012. This will ensure the UK meets its 2020 renewable energy targets while making efficiency savings of 20%, or £105 Million a year, by 2014-2015 compared with the previous government's plans".

Thomas Farquhar Sales Manager for MCS Accreditation Specialists Easy MCS Ltd comments on the positive impact of this announcement. "We work very closely with large numbers of Renewable Heat Installers across the UK, this will be a major boost for them as they are going to see a huge fluctuation in demand for their services which will inevitably lead to job creation. At Easy MCS we support installers through the Government's MCS Accreditation process which once they are approved allows them to offer government funding like the RHI to consumers. Since the announcement at 1320BST we have seen a huge surge in visits to our website and our phones lit up with people asking about getting MCS Accredited so they could offer this new Renewable Heat Funding.

The only challenge the industry is now facing is one of a shortage of MCS Accredited and Quality installers. With government predictions for installations under the RHI running into several millions, there is going to be a huge shortage of accredited installers at a time of surging demand. We would highly recommend anyone looking into becoming a Renewable installer starts the accreditation process as soon as possible so as to get themselves established to take advantage of this announcement".

MCS Equals More Profit

With an imminent announcement on the Renewable Heat Incentive expected from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the renewable industry is holding its breath as many MCS Accredited installers eagerly anticipate the influx of enquiries, and the resulting boost in business and profits.

Behind the scenes many installers and administrators of the MCS scheme are expressing concern at the industry’s ability to cope with the expected explosion in demand. The DECC is predicting a best case scenario in excess of 7 million installations under the RHI between 2011 and 2020, with 25% of these installations expected to take place in 2020. It is widely anticipated that the Renewable Heat Incentive will fall under the existing MCS scheme with a similar set of criteria to its predecessor the Low Carbon Buildings programme.

Prediction – 49,000 more MCS Accredited Installers needed in the next ten years

Currently under the MCS scheme, there are approximately 960 approved installers, which, with RHI uptake estimates, would need to increase to 50,000 by 2020 in order to cope with demand.

One business established earlier this year to help installers achieve MCS Accreditation and take advantage of the upturn in demand, Easy MCS Ltd, aims to make MCS Accreditation far more accessible.

“Easy MCS provide a cost- and pain-free solution to MCS Accreditation,” says Easy MCS Ltd Sales Manager, Thomas Farquhar. “For most installers the cost of taking three days off to complete the paperwork, write a full quality management system and undergo an inspection is prohibitive – especially as it may ultimately result in a failed inspection.’’
