MCS Specialists Respond to DECC announcement

The UK's leading MCS & Renewable Training Specialists have today responded to the DECC announcement on the Feed in Tariffs.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced contingency plans to delay the cut to the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) for solar electricity, should it lose its case in the Court of the Appeal.

In a statement, DECC said it was today laying before Parliament draft licence modifications which makes provision for a reduced FiT rate from April 1 2012 onwards for new solar PV installations with an eligibility date on or after March 2012. The contingency plans are being put into place because the Government is still awaiting a decision from the Court of Appeal on its case against the High Court decision that its previous plans to cut the FiT from December 12 were unlawful.

Commenting on the announcement for Easy MCS Ltd, Thomas Farquhar said "This announcement should provide some clarity for Solar PV Installers looking at the situation should the DECC lose their appeal. This announcement suggests that new installations after the 3rd of March will receive the new tariffs regardless of the outcome of the appeal. The new rate set proposed for March 3rd onwards, of 21p/kwh is regarded by the majority of Solar PV installers as being fair to the consumer as installation costs have fallen. It provides a fair rate of return and if prices continue to fall will creep back into being a very good rate of return. No other domestic product on the market can currently offer the rate of return and cost saving benefits of that of Solar PV. The Solar PV market will see significant growth in 2012 building on the foundations of 2010/11".

Daikin say MCS is Vital

Daikin UK, one of the UK's leading Heat Pump manufacturers have said that MCS Accreditation is vital for all renewable installers and the quality of the industry. The article goes on to recommend Easy MCS Ltd as a recommended route to achieving MCS.

In response to the news item published in H&V News on 19 October (Last minute delay to RHI launch ‘very embarrassing’ for DECC, page 7), Daikin UK believes that MCS accreditation is still vital, despite the RHI delays.

At Daikin UK, we are urging installers to remain focused on MCS accreditation despite the Government’s last minute announcement that the start of the Renewable Heat Incentive for commercial properties to be put back by a month until November.....

We therefore recommend that more installers use this opportunity to become MCS accredited by working with accreditation bodies such as the NICEIC or Easy MCS to help guide them through the process before the first phase.

The MCS Specialists a hit at top Installer Show!

The UK's Number 1 MCS Certification specialists Easy MCS Ltd were a big hit at Installer Live 2011. With installers from around the UK visiting to discuss their MCS Accreditation & Renewable Training requirements, some of the Easy MCS team were on hand to give advice on the journey into the renewable industry for a variety of technologies including; Solar PV, Solar Thermal, Heat Pumps, Wind Turbines and Biomass. Head MCS Mentor for Easy MCS, Pete Roberts, also gave a number of Seminars in the Green Deal theatre on the Renewable Industry, achieving MCS Certification and relevant training.

“Take Work at Height Safety Seriously or Take the fall!”

Over the last 20 years CSS Worksafe has worked tirelessly to develop and deliver safety training programmes in a variety of sectors.

Historically we have lead the way for those working in the Satellite and Aerial industry having trained upwards of 15,000 engineers. Now we have also produced the most comprehensive training package in the market place Solar PV installers.

Surprisingly many training courses available for safe working at height are delivered in the classroom or incorporated as a theory module within the technical programme. 

Ours however, is a practical and interactive course specifically designed for installers and addresses the various challenges when handling panels at height.  As a provider of working at height equipment, we are also in a position to suggest the most appropriate equipment to be selected for any particular.

The choice of whether to take a practical course or a theory course at this time is technically down to the employer. We were delighted to discover that when a panel of companies were asked whether they would pay a little extra to put their worker through proper work at height training  they agreed that it wasn’t worth the risk to the individual not too!
