Green Deal Officially launches

Green Deal Launched

The long awaited full launch of the Green Deal has taken place. The launch of the Green Deal follows the commencement of the Green Deal Cashback scheme on January 14th which rewards those who take up a Green Deal plan in the early days of the scheme launching.

The Green Deal is the Government’s flagship energy efficiency improvement programme and aims to improve more than 14 million homes by 2020. Improvements range from Insulation such as Cavity Wall, Loft and External Wall Insulation, through to Heating Systems including Boilers and Controls to Electrical Measures such as Lighting and Renewable Technologies including Solar PV, Solar Thermal, Heat Pumps etc.

The Green Deal had a “soft launch” on October 1st 2012 from which date the first Green Deal Assessments were able to take place, the first Green Deal Providers, Green Deal Assessment Organisations and Green Deal Installers have been able to become certified, and work has been able to take place under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO).

The Energy Company Obligation supports those on lower incomes or those classed as vulnerable in having energy efficiency measures installed potentially reducing any finance provided by the Green Deal to a much lower amount if anything at all.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: "The Green Deal will help thousands of homes stay warm for less. Those people will benefit from energy saving improvements - and their energy bills will fall. The UK green sector is a success story. It is the sixth largest in the world and has a crucial part to play in building a strong economy. The Green Deal will support thousands of jobs, not just over the next few years, but in the long-term."

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey also said "Improve the look and feel of your home, make it cosier and at the same time save energy - what's not to like?"

The Green Deal marketing campaign prepared by the Department of Energy and Climate Change will now commence spreading the message of the Green Deal to consumers and business owners across the UK, stimulating thousands of projects for the Green Deal Installers and Green Deal Advisors already on the Green Deal Scheme.

Speaking following the launch of the Green Deal, Thomas Farquhar from Easy Green Deal said “Today marks a very significant step for the entire industry and will be seen as great news by all the Green Deal Installers & Green Deal Advisors that have already been trained and approved in preparation for the launch of the Green Deal. The PR campaign the Department of Energy and Climate Change have prepared, has now kicked into action and is getting the message out there to millions of consumers, providing hundreds of thousands of jobs throughout our sector.
